Kala is a piano/vocal instructor who specializes in tapping into students’ learning preferences to develop a personalized curriculum. Her versatile teaching approach sets the stage for long-term and individualized creative growth. She incorporates a mix of technique, theory, ear training, performance, and improvisation skills into her lesson programs.
With an educational background of classical, theatrical, and contemporary training, Kala is happy to help students explore a diverse musical interests. Her training includes studying music performance and creation at Furman University and Hampshire College, as well as coaching from Broadway composer Craig Carnelia and Billboard Top 10 songwriters Stephen Bray and Lari White.
Kala has garnered numerous awards and national recognition in her 15+ years experience as a performing singer/songwriter. She has shared the stage with artists such as Don McLean, Tower of Power, Christine Ohlman of the Saturday Night Live Band, and Steve Katz of Blood Sweat and Tears.
I have been giving private lessons for nearly 8 years to a number of students of various ages. Most of my musical career has been spent as touring musician all throughout New England and on the east coast.
